Okay, so I thought I was on the right track and very excited to hit the first test run. Good sign: the mod showed up in my mod list during startup. From that point pretty much nothing else went as planned. When I used a sim to go paint on the easel the easel lit up to show I had an option to interact with it but when I clicked on it no menu popped up. As I have never tried to do anything but recolor paintings before now I am being more honest with myself by saying I have no idea what I am doing. Haha, again, not ready to give up but I definitely need a break. Time to go make lunch.

After just junking the entire thing and starting from scratch (partially to get the more experience) I was able to get back to the first test run again. This time the pie menu did show up and I was able to paint a large painting from the mod. I was so excited I was beaming! Then I tried landscape and supersize paintings and the landscape art showed up as a question mark. Darn. Quite disheartening to go all the way back to step 3 but I figure I could just focus on changing the 'landscape' and 'landscape_medium" files as everything else seemed to work properly. Only one day left; I am not giving up!

well, my first thought is that your image size isn't correct. Are all the images you added 512x512?

I have not yet added my own images but are testing that the images already included in the original download. I did open them in PhotoFiltre outside the S4S and they are indeed the correct size. I am going to take a little while now to go back and make sure that I named all of the landscape files correctly when I changed the XML text. I really am new to this, the only peek at coding I have seen before was about a decade ago in college when we learned how to use Flash MX. Haha.
*Edit* So I went back and double checked nearly every text entered was in the right place and matched the example (with my own names, of course, but with consistancy). I found no errors. My only other idea at this point (per suggestion in the tutorial) is that my hexs may conflict with another mod. To test that theory before going back and starting over again will be to move everything out of my mod folder except for the file I am working on, start a new game and then try out the test run again. *fingers crossed* By deduction if it works with a new save file than this must be my error, if not than I am at a loss.
*Another Edit* Okay, well....hmmm. I could start over and try again? Lol. After removing all mods except the cc I am working on I opened a new game only to realize that I needed Andrew's craftables mod as well. So I exited, reopened the game (after putting Andrew's craftable mod back into the mod folder) and encountered the same error again. Just to be triple sure I again opened the DST Images in PhotoFiltre and all of them were 512 x 512 canvas. If the large paintings and the supersize paintings are both working but landscape is not, when these two mods are the only ones in the mod folder for this particular save file, then what should be next on my troubleshooting list? I assumed that if it was an incidence of the hex numbers conflicting with another mod then removing all other game mods and cc should have resolved the error. I went back over 85% of everything I have done from step 3- step 8 in the tutorial and it all appears to be correct. Any other suggestions?
Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, I was curious as to why in the origional files there is both landscape and landscape_medium files? I am only asking because I like to know and if I can figure out how to do this I want to continue to make mods for sims 4. My hypothesis is that the landscape files are only a referance to the basic recipe on which the other files are built by default and that the landscape_medium files actually referance the landscape art. I could be way off here.

Hi lordsebastian, you have my admiration I read this tut 4 times and decided it was way out of my ability I think the landscape med file may be linked to the skill level of the painter. There are as you know on the game easel high, med & low skill, so its just a guess that the landscape med might mean med skill level.

Actually, the landscape_medium entries are a trick way to make the system recognize the non-EA canvas meshes. The same for the supersize_small. It is the only way to replace those meshes that I found.

For the sake of a new release and irritation, I think I am going to just keep the mod as is and work through the rest of the steps. At least I should be able to paint my large paintings and supersize paintings without any trouble, haha, improvise, adapt, overcome A.I.R.? lol. Seriously, I will try again after having fun with Strangeville for a few weeks.
Leniad , thanks for the information. That makes sense, I am sure as I open other mod files to disect them I will see similar trends. (btw; thank you for the help and the time you clearly have dedicated to helping new modders *tips hat*)

Wow. I'm... going to have to go over this when I'm more alert and try again.
If I don't want the new paintings to appear under a new menu item, but rather appear under and existing category, how would this tutorial change?

Okay, okay. So maybe a little longer than a few days. a) I have successfully adapted about 5 new series on the easel of my own design, thank you so much for all of your help. It took some patience on my part and I have made mistakes here and there but doing it over and over helped me to familiarize myself with the codes and each time I improved the time that it took for me to complete all the steps that are outlined in this tutorial. Of the hundreds of mods I have downloaded, making my own art on the easel is still by far my favorite, because I was able to do it myself!!! Thank you so much!!
b) Right, so now I am going to get picky because my mom always said I can do whatever I want if I'm willing to work for it. In this particular mod I have found that the supersize paintings have a beveled edge on them (with and without adding a frame). Is there anyway to remove this from the in-game image? I checked and it is not on any of the flat images that I loaded in S4S but something in the mod that makes it this way. I am assuming it is perhaps in the blueprint for the supersize DST image since it only shows up on this particular size and, of course, none of the original painting sets have a supersize to begin with. If you have any ideas I am open to suggestion. Thank you in advance for any of your help.
Eat. Sleep. Game. Repeat.

The supersize and landscape sizes are the same mesh as EA's large -with slight adjustment in orientation or width. I noticed the bevel issue, but it doesn't bother me. I believe it is due to the EA map of the original map. I believe that Havem found that adding a border to the images (512x512 image was 510x510 on a 512x512 background). Not sure that helps. Good luck

Hi, I have followed this tutorial and after many hours and 3 tests I thought I had it however my pie menu doesn't pop up whenever I click on the easel with my new mod package inside. I took it out and it pops up just fine. After checking my codes, I don't see anything wrong. What could be the problem? I'm holding off on redoing everything starting at step 3 just in case it's something I overlooked and not me having to redo all the work I just did.

Not sure what you mean "new mod package inside"?

By new mod I meant the painting package file we were working on. Sorry for the confusion. I'm currently on step 8 where we are supposed to test our creation before putting in the actual pictures. However the package file we've edited prevents the easel's pie menu from popping up when you click the easel. I'm wondering if I have to restart at step 3 because there maybe a conflicting ID or if there's a simpler solution?

My suggestion when that happens is to start again, I know it is annoying and disheartening but it is easier to start again fresh with new ids than to waste hours frustrated trying to find the issue. Trust me I have been there many times. There is no way I know of to make sure the ids are unique from the start, so you just plug away. To encourage you I mention that I have never had that issue happen twice in a row.
