I am not native speaker but I speak English. I had hard time figuring out what is this object for but then I found this item with 2 buckets on the chains and figured out that it's a shoulder yoke or also carrying pole. In Russian it's Коромысло (koromYslo with the stress on Y).

The diagram looks pretty technical and I imagine that like me, most native English-speakers would not know what was referred to by those terms. I think "hitch" is accurate and easily recognized.
