This is caused when you group parts of a mesh together and don't remove doubles at the join. I made a selection in wireframe mode around the problem areas and removed doubles (Ctrl V>Remove Doubles) and it seemed to fix the appearance in game.

I don't know about igor23, but I don't believe this is my problem. When I open blender my mesh looks like this: I did attempt the remove doubles fix, and it, unfortunately, didn't do anything.
