Hi. I just wanted to ask how people create clothes for the sims 4. Do they use planes like the ones for hair or do they use something else? Also what 3d program is recommended to use to create clothes? And lastly, i am thinking about using marvelous design to try to create clothes. Is that okay? Here is the program for those who don't know what it is Marvelous Designer5

Hi, You can create clothes for ts4 with planes, squirs, ... if you know how to make a fine clothing mesh with it and that you know well about UV mapping and texturing and assainging it to the right bones. But its easyer to export an basegame clothing mesh and edit it untill it looks like how you want it. S4S uses blender as 3dprogram but you also can use ms3d, 3dmax,... but then you will need to export it as .obj and inport it to blender and assaing the right bones in blender and export it as .blenderfile. I dont know if you can use that but you may use it to get idea's or refrence for your clothing.

Thanks for answering. I just wanted to say that i know how to create uvs and assign bones but what are morphs? And also for hair, when i finish creating the hair with planes, how can i bring in a texture and make the ends of the hair look more realistic like having thin ends? I know you need an alpha channel but if anyone could create a mini tutorial for it. And by the way, i know how to use blender and maya:)

For 'transperancy' on Clothing or hair you open your item in S4S and on the left side you see Studioand warehouse click on the warehousebutton. Then you click on Geometryand then on data (its next to 3dprevieuw and text) you will gain this screen: When you got that screen go to shader and change it into simglassThat should do the trick. Morphs are used in ts4 to let it fit any body type a sim can have a mesh without morphs will not allways work ingame. And in ts4 can you change a body of a sim as you wish so there will be 100 and more body types. To get all morphs you should use a ts4 base clothing or hair mesh and edit that mesh to fit for what you want. But for hair is that not allways needed so long you got the right bones on it.

For the 'trancperancy' dont forget the save and do the same for all geometry that are in the file.

Thank you so much. I have learnt a lot from this. But if you look at this video here, you will see what i am trying to ask you. Look at how the guy imported texture to the hair:) skip to 4:52 to start watching from there.

The video only shows how to make a hair mesh made out a plane and how it looks with the hair texture on it. So do you mean about hair texture on a hairmesh?

You make your hair texture in .dds with the background tranceperant so your able to get that effect like in that video. And then the steps I told that you need to do in s4s.

So far as I know from exporting from a 3dprogram to another is the best to export it as .obj and then inport it to blender. But if you export it as .obj you do lose all bones of the mesh and you will need to assaing them again in blender itself.

Yeah i am very aware about that but i made the hair in maya and am finding it hard importing it to blender because the hair won't import with it. I have tried many ways to resolve this but nine has been successful. I thought of a method though. There is a milkshape plugin for blender so if i import the hair to 3dmax and then import it to milkshape and from there into blender maybe it would work butthe problem is that when i import frim 3ds max to milkshape, the model is lying on the floor instead of standing straight. What's up with that?
