IntroductionThis tutorial will show you how to add a specular resource to a CAS item that has no specular resource originally. This tutorial assumes you have completed some of the basic Sims 4 Studio tutorials and have a general understanding of how to use the tool. What you will needSims 4 Studio (Jackpot) - please note, this tutorial was not written to take advantage of new features added after the Jackpot version of Studio. InstructionsFor this tutorial I used the base game face paint as the example. Clone your item and click into the Warehouse. Select the RLE 2 Image line. Click the Add button: When the Add Resource box pops up scroll to RLESImageResource and select it: Click on the new RLES line that Studio adds and import your rles images. Remember to name them according to Studio's rles naming convention so that Studio pulls your new mask along with the overlay when you import: Link your new specular in the CAS Part resource by copying the Type, Group, and Instance numbers from here: into the corresponding lines here: You need to do that for each CAS Part so it's best to do this part before adding swatches. If you link the first all subsequent swatches you add will be linked already. Save your .package and continue working on the project.

I am attempting to add a bump map with this same method. When I link the 'CAS Part' with the Group, Instance and Type of the 'DST Image' I put it under the 'NormalMap' group correct?
Well, I do that and no bumping happens. I even only linked it to one swatch with a completely gray texture and it was still flat! Help? :P

Unlike specular images, bump maps are referenced in the Geometry resource for CAS.

I'm not trying to be judgemental and I do appreciate all these tutorials. I am an absolute beginner to this and I have read all of them before anyone slams me. I understand a lot of explanation may be lost in translation. But a lot of the tutorials are very confusing and missing information pertinent to the step. For example here...you write...
"For this tutorial I used the base game face paint as the example. Clone your item and click into the Warehouse. Select the RLE 2 Image line. Click the Add button:"
Ok, 1. For starters, what fill in am I choosing before I press CAS, There's 4 choices since im using 3.0.0.3 Harmony. This is very confusing. 2. How does one "clone" an item...from other tutorials I've seen this looks like an inside CC term, PLEASE CLARIFY. Because when I go into warehouse there is only "CAS part". There is no RLE 2 image. I think I've got a good grasp on recoloring...and basic 2D adjustments. I want to start messing with more advanced techniques. There's another tutorial where A person asks how you remove the grey underwear or bra strings from showing up in game, which you respond (s.i.c) "It must be overridden." PLEASE ELOBORATE on how one does that. This is very confusing and frustrating. Thank you though for all your work. I will continue to keep reading tutorials and watching videos until someone gets back to me. :D

(This shows up as a "new object" in the catalogue, instead of a swatch, which shows up as a recolour option.) - "Create 3D Mesh" means to clone an object in a way that lets you replace its mesh with a new one (and change everything else too). - "Add CAS Part Swatch" assumably means to add a swatch (recolour option) to an existing item, rather than a standalone recolour (which would show up in the catalogue as a new item). - "Override" would mean you want to replace an existing object with something else. Maybe you don't like how an object looks. Clone means that you make a copy of an item (package). Normally you do this because you want to replace things and create a new package. I can't help with the warehouse parts, but I'm sure someone else will! Probably "overridden" refers to replacing it with a new image by using the export and import functions.

Yeah you're right, I'm just use to people being jerks on forums, I guess...I was a bit defensive. Thank you for responding, Clown confetti. :D. This is just so frustrating when I think I get the hang of something and the stupid default grey underwear shows up, or now I have brown shadows!

Hi, sc0rpioloco, based on your post I have added clarification to the introduction of this tutorial. This tutorial is not meant to be a comprehensive "how to make a new item tutorial, " and the topic is limited to just what the title says. It assumes that you have already completed a basic tutorial or two and have a general understanding of how things work. To learn how to get started making a brand new item, I recommend seeing one of the beginner tutorials. Those go over which button needs to be clicked to clone something.
The tutorials at Sims 4 Studio are mostly written to build on each other. This means you need to read a basic one before moving on to the next, and things are done this way for two reasons. 1. if every tutorial built from the ground up everyone who had already done the basic tutorials would have to wade through a bunch of stuff they already know to pick out the part that's new. This would waste their time and be aggravating. 2. if every tutorial built from the ground up, the tutorial writer (me in most cases) would waste a lot of time providing redundant information.
Harmony is a beta version. Because you are a beginner, I do not recommend using the beta version if you have a tough time with ambiguity. The beta version has new features and UI changes that will not be included in these tutorials. This is because I do not have time to provide two sets of tutorials, one for the stable version that most people learn with and one for the beta version that is subject to constant change.
Learning how to make things for the game is not a simple process. These tutorials are provided as a starting point rather than the be-all and end-all of how to do a specific project. My recommendation is to select a reasonable project based on your level of experience and understanding. If you run into questions making that project, feel welcome to post a question about it in the Creator Help section. Provide screenshots of your project and explain where you are in the process and what the issue is. This tutorial is about how to add a CAS specular to an item that doesn't have one. Posting questions about other issues and tutorials in this thread is off-topic. Please keep questions in the tutorial threads on the topic of the tutorial so that other people reading the thread don't have to wade through questions and information that aren't on the topic of the tutorial thread they're reading. Thanks!

Unlike specular images, bump maps are referenced in the Geometry resource for CAS. Is there a tutorial for adding normals to a CAS item that does have one, like adding normals to skin details?

Hi, my item does not have an Rle 2 image. Has the name of the objects changed? Can someone tell me what is the name of the resource under warehouse tab that I should use?
I'm adding a specular to a painting
Thanks

Feyona Said: This tutorial is about how to add specular to CAS items.
So is there a tutorial for adding a specular to an object? If yes can you point me in that direction?
Thanks

Thanks I haven't seen such tutorial. Check our build/buy section with tutorials. I don't work with objects to know for sure whether it is possible at all or how to add it to the objects. They have completely different structure.

What I'd like to know is how you generated a new instance number for the added image resource and how you ended up with two CAS part resources. I'm assuming that a new swatch was added and that's why there are two CAS part resources, but the instance number? I'd like to know about that, please.

Hello! My eyeshadow doesn't have an RLE 2 image. I'm running Sims 4 Studio Wishes and don't know if this tutorial still works for my version or if there's an updated tutorial?
