I just started playing Sims 4 and got the Get Famous expansion pack. I don’t have any other expansion packs or anything and I don’t really have the budget to buy anything else. I’m sorry if these questions get posted a lot. I figured you guys might be the best people to ask.
What is Custom Content? Is it free? How do I get it? I see so many cool hairstyles and makeup looks I want to get, but I don’t know how.
Do you normally pay full price for all the expansion packs? I want so many of them but they’re so expensive.
Besides the “mother lode” cheat, are there any other cheats out there that you would recommend?
What are mods?
Any tips or suggestions on how to make the game fun would be appreciated. I’m so excited to play!

Custom content is modding, it's free but it's only available for PC/Mac, not consoles. You can get them from a lot of different places, like thesimsresource (has ads and waittimes, though), and Pinterest is a good place to find download links. You can just go on Pinterest and look up "sims 4 hair" or "sims 4 clothes" for example and you should be able to find a lot of options.
There are two types of mods, custom content and script mods. Custom content is just cosmetic stuff, like clothing and furniture, and it doesn't affect gameplay. There's a lot of other mods that do change gameplay, personally I don't use a lot of them but some that are really popular are wonderful whims, basemental drugs, and MCCC (which adds more cheats, basically).
If you want any more expansions in the future, I'd recommend waiting for a sale. They go on sale pretty regularly. Expansion packs can be 50% off, which is a good deal. Smaller packs like game and stuff packs have smaller discounts, but it's still worth waiting for in my opinion.

Check out the Creators Studios here, there is lots of customs content in there. My all time favourite pack is Spar Day, lots of stuff to play with and best of all the massage table. I have my sims get a deep tissue massage once a day it lasts 24 hours ensuring they are always happy or whatever. Also helps keeping a great mood going all day (if done late the night before) to help with job promotions. Happy sims are the key to getting what you want, I keep mine fed watered and amused and as a result I have multi millionaires everywhere with no cheating. Great food is also a good way to increase well being, Perfect produce when used in recipes combined with a sim that's inspired while cooking, makes for a 4 hours 'great food buff' plus they don't have to eat as much if the meal quality is awesome, meaning you get more play time and less maintenance demands. Tip- put something with an inspired ambiance in the kitchen so every time your sims cooks (in theory) the food will be higher quality. Hope something helps, my style of play is, do the groundwork and the rest is all gravy Oh just thought my favourite place ever to live is Sulani, (Island living) it's so beautiful and sims can swim in the ocean. One more tip-Steel Bladder trait, couldn't play with all my sims having this.
