Introduction
This forum is where people can post to get help with a project they're working on and where other people should feel free to help them if they know a solution to the problem. You don't have to be a moderator to help another creator. We expect common courtesy and polite posts here - please do not post in a rude way (rude posts will be deleted).
If you decide to help someone else, please do not just fix their item and send their completed project back to them. People post here because they want to learn to do the project themselves. It's fine to make fixes to something and test it before answering but let the OP go through the steps you took yourself on their own. Providing a little boost in the form of a partially fixed item that can serve as an example so the OP can continue forward is fine too but just doing the whole project for someone isn't the idea of the Creator Help section.
If you're working on a project and have lost interest in continuing it this forum is not the place to ask someone else to finish it for you. If you have a project you want to be completed by someone else the requests section is the best place to seek someone else to work on it.
If you begin a thread and the topic is answered, please do not delete your post. You cannot delete the entire thread, you'll delete the 1st post and end up with an incomplete thread. Besides, other people with the same question you had may come to this section, and will want to read the thread to get the same answer you received. If for some reason you want your thread removed, you can contact a mod who may move it to the archive.
How to get the best help possible
- Give your thread a descriptive title that provides a general idea of what the issue is.
- Fully describe the problem as best as you can. A screenshot of the issue with arrows indicating the problem is often helpful. The easiest way to post a screenshot is to obtain a free picture hosting account at a site like Imgur. Please do not post links to pictures that require a login/membership to see them or that result in the viewer being bombarded with ads and/or popup messages. Everyone here has better things to do than deal with that just to see a picture.
- Please state what version of S4S you used. Also, state what graphics program you used. If you used some other custom content creation tool in tandem with Studio please state which tool that was and what portion of the process you used it for.
- If you post something for someone else to look at please do not provide a link with ads on it. Be courteous...people helping you do not want to be bombarded with ads. Dropbox is a good way of sharing links that don't have ads.
- If you post asking for help with something and a moderator asks you for the package so they can help, please do not post a link to where the item can be downloaded. If you don't want to post the package in the thread, you can PM it to them. The staff here doesn't have time to chase down content. If you don't want to send it to anyone here, then don't ask for help with it. It is often true that to help you, someone is going to need to look at the item.
- If you want to upload a .package or a .blend post the .package or the .blend. If you put them into a .rar or a .zip they may or may not get looked at. There is no need to put a .package or a .blend into compressed format, and it's a chore for the person looking at your item if you do.
- If you're uploading multiple .packages and .blends it's probably best to organize them in a folder and zip or rar that up. If you don't want to attach files to your post for any reason, you may PM them as needed. Files will not be removed when a problem is solved unless requested or done on your own. If you post an item for help, please try to remember to make the .package and/or the .blend have your name on it so that it is clear whose item it is.
- If you require help with content you're working on that would raise the game rating above Teen, do not post that content in this forum. A link to it should instead be sent, via PM, to the tech lead or moderator helping you if they request it in the process of helping you. Do not use the forum PM system to send this content to any other member.
-Once your problem has been solved, please edit your original post and add {SOLVED} to the title (If needed, condense the title).
- Please don't hijack another member's thread with your own issue. It's better to make your own post so that different issues are separated into different threads.
- It's perfectly fine to bump an older thread if you're having exact same issue outlined in the original post, and the suggested solution hasn't fixed your problem.
What this forum is not for:
- To seek help converting or otherwise modifying someone else's work without their permission. If your project is a conversion of someone else's work please provide written proof that you have received permission or that their policy is such that permission is not required. Simply failing to mention that the project is based on someone else's work will not be tolerated.
- Bug Reports. If you believe the issue you're having is caused by a Studio bug or you have received an error please check out the trouble-shooting tips in the Error Report section.
- Suggestions for improvements or features for Sims 4 Studio. Participating members with a new idea for Studio are welcome to post it in the use the Wish List thread.
- Discussing your WIP items. If you want to discuss your project please post in the Discussion or Pictures forum unless that discussion is related to a problem you're having with it.
- A general thread covering a variety of topics or only tangentially associated with a Sims 4 project you're actively working on.
What not to do:
- Do not tell a creator that someone else already made something like the item they're working on. No one cares. This forum is for helping people finish their project, not for discouraging them.
- Do not bump your thread within the day of creating it. Same goes for demanding an answer and complaining about slow response time. Creative Help is manned by a few moderators and volunteer members who aren't available 24/7/365. Someone will get to you when they can.
- Do not tag a moderator in your thread, unless specifically instructed to by that mod. Not only would that inconvenience the staff, it also doesn't look good. There are various people (mods and otherwise) who regularly provide solutions, so if you're tagging specific unsolicited people, you're implying that everyone else is not capable of helping you.
- Do not ask for help with a Sims 4 project that has nothing to do with Sims 4 Studio. Do not ask for help that doesn't involve a specific Sims 4 project. Do not ask for help meeting the demands of queue moderators or upload rules at other sites. The Creator Help section is not here to support the queues of off-site upload sections and it is not the appropriate place to discuss them.
- Do not ask how to create items using a tool other than Studio and do not post about tools other than Studio. This section is the support thread for Sims 4 Studio and as such, the topic of conversation that is appropriate to this section is Sims 4 Studio.
- Do not post edited items made by artists with a no recolor/remesh policy here in the Studio forums for any reason. If you run into trouble working with such an item for your own personal use it is fine to ask for help and even post a link to the original item you're having trouble with. It is not ok to post the original item or your recolor/remesh of it. If an original object.package or recolor/remesh of an object is posted that has a no-share policy attached to it the link will be removed. Please respect the rights of your fellow artists in Sims 4 and follow their policy.
- Do not post in a rude or demanding way. No one here is paid to put up with self-entitled ill-behaved people, and we do not tolerate posts that are uncivil. Posts that are impolite will be removed. People who violate our requirement for civility will have their account deleted.
