I'm trying to make new headscarves using the Maxis hijab and I'm trying to understand how the textures work. This is the game texture And this is the result I'm presuming Maxis made this using a scarf texture originally - a un-deformed square texture with a consistent pattern. Is there a way of getting back to that? Ideally I'd like to be able to replace it with my own scarf texture and for it to then wrap itself properly with the folds etc. I presume if I unwrap the scarf I get the texture from the game. I can paint onto this, but it would be more accurate if I could take it back to being a scarf. Example uncoloured scarf crop in case it's not obvious what I'm taking about:: Is this possible? Thanks

Hi. Most likely they made a scarf in Marvelous designer or by using cloth simulation in a 3d software of their choice and then used it as a surface to create a new mesh with no cloth overlapping to lower polycount. You can unwrap it to look like anything, but if you make it look like a rectangular, you will get textural distortions. Intead of changing its uvs, try projection painting. There are many tutorials about it on youtube. Here are a few: from 5:40 or starting from 12:04
