Hi, I was having trouble creating a specular for the "Marble Walk" floor that came with Get Famous, as it didn't come with it's own specular map. I wanted to use the same gloss/shine from the "Check Mate! Marble Flooring". Also when I tried exporting the spec from the Check Mate floor, it came out blank. If anybody can create the desired effect on the "Marble Walk" flooring, & get back to me, it'd be appreciated, thanks.

Did you export it as dds direct from left-hand list in the warehouse tab? I've run into problems with speculars in the past when exporting from the main textures tab in the main window.

Yea, I played around with it & figured a work-around, by using a default specular from a glossy floor but most of them have grout line cut-outs in the specular, which I don't want. So I tried using a spec. from a glass object, resized to fit the floor, but in game, the floor reflection light shows up as whatever color the RGB is. (I.e. pink or green etc.) The RGB works fine on objects as intended, but floors seem to work differently. Also, when I tried to export the spec. from any floor package, it shows up fully transparent in Photoshop or whatever 2D editor. I can't edit it or anything. Some floor specs have black grout lines, but transparent squares. (I would expect it to be a shade of grey or some RGB color) I tried both PNG & DDS, same result.

There are some tutorials in here about making Specular, but they're written in a way that a novice cannot just read it and know what they're talking about. And unfortunately it's very hard to school the novice through it. In addition the tutorials are fine if you own Adobe PhotoShop (a very expensive professional program) but there seems no catering for Gimp 2 (a completely free program more people are likely to be able to acquire). So often is the case, queries like yours remain unanswered and ignored. Like nobody is here. Not even a Moderator. I've been in and all through the list of tutorials here and I've gone a long way without much solution found here that can be replicated without PhotoShop.
For example: Bakie will tell you how to make a carpet recolor and that's great. But he won't go on to tell you how to make a floor with reflective, glossy shine. Yet the EA Game Content has it on many of their hard flooring. So you're forced to look at other tutorials about Specular for objects like a Mirror. Again, great if you understand all the names or labels they use for things and have PhotoShop. I think sometimes tutorials are written and you just have to know what they're talking about. Too bad if you don't because in the case of Specular, there is no beginner tutorial that brings you up to speed so you can understand the intermediate tutorials.
Well I'm still lost but I can tell you that TS4 uses Specular differently to other programs out there. So you're forced to try and find a TS4 Specular tutorial. I found good tutorials for Gimp 2 to be able to make Diffuse, Bump, Specular and Normal Maps, but unfortunately a waste of time in the end because TS4 has to have it's own unique way of having a Normal map and Specular Map created. For TS4, Specular is controlled by the values of Red, Green, Blue and Alpha within the image and that is different to other games or programs and how it reads the Specular Map. And that is about as much as I can take from the Intermediate tutorial here on this forum. I haven't the foggiest idea how to then replicate that in Gimp 2.
I am with you and I can guess you are as frustrated as I am and maybe even given up. It seems to me that something that which could be learned has not been made easy to learn. Just not enough diversity in solution from my perspective, but obviously not everyone else's. Kudos those who got PhotoShop.
