Hi there!
Any advice on how to make semi-transparent tattoos? Also, I downloaded the dds plugin for Photoshop, but whenever I save the file to import it back into s4s it says the alpha will be deleted. How do I get it to work?
Thanks!

Hey guys,
I am new here and I am new to creating and modifying thins in The Sims 4 using Sims 4 Studio and Photoshop. I am working on creating my own tattoos and I followed this guide to the T and the tattoo looked great in Sims 4 Studio, so, I finished the process and put the package file in my game. The game loaded fine and the tattoo appeared like it was supposed to look in create a sim. However, when I applied the custom tattoo to my male sim, the tattoo looked awesome, but, it changed my sim's skin tone to a grayish white color. So, now he has an awesome looking tattoo, but he looks like something out of the Avatar movie, just not blue. Did I do something wrong or miss a step? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

siennasprout First of all, using dds files isn't really neccesary anymore. It's more easy to use PNG files instead, so you won't have to work with the alpha channel in photoshop. To make a tattoo transparent using PNG files, all tou have to do is change the opacity from 100% to 50% for example. Let me know if it worked out by typing "@"-myname in your answer, so I will get a notification. wtram83Probably your area around the tattoo wasn't totally transparent. If you used a dds file and changed the alpha channel, you probably didn't use pure black around your white tattoo. But just as for siennasprout, using PNG files instead of dds files makes it a lot easier to work with. Your background then need to be all transparent what will look like a white/grey small squares background.

I can't get it to work. How do I properly recolor the alpha and other layer? I do as the tutorial say, or how I think it is, and ends up with a greyscale, even as I have RGB Color on.

Hi zetsuai. Is it grey/black/white in the game? Can you share the package?

zetsuai I understand. But you are telling that something is wrong, but without seeing at least a picture it's difficult to tell why it isn't working.

Maybe it would be more easy to use PNG files instead of DDS. When using PNG files, you won't have to deal with Alpha layers which make it more difficult then it could be. When exporting the original tattoo, export as PNG file, then when importing it in photoshop or gimp, you will notice the transparent background arround the tattoo. (white-grey checkboard) Now just erase that original tattoo and place your own. If it has a white background, you will have to delete that one too untill it's all transparent. Import your image back and it should work in studio and in game.

I followed the instructions but I am new to CC and may have did something wrong. When I import the tattoo into S4S everything but the tattoo is white and when I package it and put it in my game it adds the tattoo but makes my sim white. Could I get some help?

Hello thegentlexfist can you post your package so someone can take a look into? It can be something with texture, alpha or you need to change composition method in warehouse. But I can't say for sure what's going on without seeing the package.

Actually I just figured out what was wrong, I completely left out my alpha layer x_x. After I fixed it my tattoo appeared in the game correctly :D :D :D Thanks for offering assistance though.

Hello mallmarr! Most likely you need to change composition method to 0, see this post for pictures where to look for this option. If it doesn't help, share your .package and texture so someone can take a look into. Also, do you save your texture in PNG ot DDS format? For tattoos (and all tiny details like lipsticks, eyeshadow etc.) it's better to save in .PNG since you need to adjust alpha in 1 pixel (make alpha 1 pixel smaller than diffuse texture) if you save in .DDS.
