Hi melissaanneu, welcome to Studio forums. I think you would be happy with the counter mod Andrew and I made. It will allow you to place clutter on your counters without having to use an omsp. It has slots all over the counters: which means you can place things anywhere you want. You will still need the MOO cheat to use them all but it's a lot easier than using an omsp. The download is HERE.

The OMSPs are good for when you want a less uniformly spaced placement or where slots are inadequate. When you use moveobjects, you can move an object that places on the floor by selecting it and holding down the ALT key. It doesn't work for placing things on surfaces though, so that's when you use an OMSP. Place your object on the OMSP of the right height and then you can move it with your deco object anywhere. Just experiment with it. There aren't any real tricks, except I would suggest checking how the placement looks at many angles and from above. Also if you need something at a non-standard height you can move the OMSP up and down by tapping "9" (up) and "0" (down).
