I did that and it fixed the issue. Just in case you haven't solved it yet.

And how do you export it with color and texture?

I use .dae to export my sims, which links the materials and also has the built-in rig and vertex groups already assigned, so I can load them into blender, delete the rig and substitute my modified one to pose them.

I'm not sure about others' methods, but dae works best for me.
