Hi in this video I will teach you how to change the UV layout and keep the textures, using only blender
Many creators like to re-arrange the UV layout and then export the UV layout from blender, and then edit the texture in an image editor, but that is a very inefficient way of doing it, many image editors will compress your texture reducing the quality and you will always be off by a few pixels, when positioning the texture to the new layout This method is very easy and it will save you a lot of time, you can see the keys that I am pressing in the viewport and just follow along
I will also teach you how to cut the UV map to utilize more UV space and maximizing quality

Hi! Thank you for the video, but I would like to ask as an absolute beginner. In your case your mesh has been colored/textured (and the texture already attached to the UV, so seems like wherever you move the UV the color stays with the UV), meanwhile I would usually give texture at later time after I baked it, save as the image, then recolor it on Photoshop. Can you explain a bit about the steps? I'm sorry I'm not pretty sure myself about what you're doing.. I'm following between these two tutorials as my reference here and here I'm trying to make some oversized sweater and it's kinda hard to put in the UV template, also my lettering texture quality always go pixelated

Mauvemorn just explained to me how this should be done. I couldn't make it work, but it turns out I was doing things in the wrong order.
1. You start by opening your file in Blender that has the original UV layout and original texture 2. Click UV_0 and then make a new UV map; the new map will contain the original UV_0 layout. 3. Rearrange your new UV map the way you need it. You'll now have the old UV layout in UV_0 and your new UV layout in your new map. 4. Assign the new UV layout to a new texture
Note: To assign a new texture, first press A to select all of your UV islands, then, while the UV islands are selected, make a new texture. If you don't do it in this order your UV layout won't be assigned to a new texture (took me forever to figure this out)
5. Bake your texture 6. Delete the old UV_0 and rename your new map UV_0 7. Click UV_1 and then make a new map. Both maps will contain the UV_1 map's layout 8. Delete UV_1 and rename your new map UV_1

Hello, I'm trying to follow your steps but the issue I have is that I have been waiting for 30 minutes for the texture to bake. I know rendering can take a long time, but in the guy above's video the bake was pretty fast. Is it normal to wait this long? The texture baking progress bar isn't moving at all...I've tried multiple times already with the same result. :(
