Hello , dear friends Not sure if this is the right place to ask about a technical problem….Please forgive me if this is not right.
I am playing Sims 4 with a GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 980. I am just a builder and decorator, with tons of CC (currently 15,7GB).
When the game is running, everything seems to work fine. But this morning I was curious (after one hour playing) to know how hot my GPU was. Bad surprise: “Speedfan” dispayed “80°” with a nice flame icon. I was scared and now I am worried about my GPU (4 years old).
What I was doing: Was in my current lot in progress, 64x64. All settings are at the highest level. The game ran fine and smooth. I played in camera mode and made a video, and at the same time I was taking pictures. Of course, it is a huge project and probably the GPU has to work hard, but 80° seems far too hot.
Could some of you share their own experience and tell me what is normal and not normal? I am afraid I have to prepare myself to replace the graphic card.
Thanks in advance for your advices.

I think it would depend on what type of temperature measurements you use. Check out Tom's Hardware. This link talks about heat issues with cards. Just a glance over it looks like it's probably fine at 80C. You could also check and make sure nothing is caked up with dust or fuzz. Use a blower or canned air to clear any dust out of there. Not cleaning a PC out from time to time can cause extra heat issues. Make sure all your fans are running good and you are probably ok. If it's still hot after that you could take the case off and point a fan into it. if you have it sitting inside of an enclosure you could pull it out of there too. It can sometimes get hot with the fans not having anywhere to push the hot air. Most cards usually die at 100c. Please note I'm not a professional... just a nerd that dabbles.

Sparkiemonkey, Thank you so much for your very helpful reply . I'll check the link you provided. I use "Speedfan". Meanwhile I made a stress test with "Furmark" and it seemed OK. When I pause the game the temperature decreases quickly and turns back to normal.
I am aware of all issues caused by dust. But my case is huge and very heavy, I can't manage it myself... If the things become worse I'll send the pc to maintenance. Awful! A week without my beloved pc, it will be so sad..!
Thank you again

Hopefully it's not indicative of something worse. I would not function well without my pc for a week. Good luck!

Thank you again, Sparkiemonkey Last news: I am now "working" ( = playing) indoors and I noticed that the graphic card's temperature doesn't exceed 70°. Formal gardens are probably more demanding than a grand staircase! I begin to think that my pc can stay at home for a while.... That makes me feel better. Thank you for your help.
