As far as I know, kitkat hasn't been online here for seven months, unfortunately. The quick and dirty way to make an RGB specular for a Sims 4 item is to find an EA item you like the shine of, export its specular, slice a piece of it, resize it to fit your image, and use that. If this tutorial isn't updated in a little while, I'll write one showing how to create a spec that way and a brand new one using Paint.net.

I've managed to actually follow the tut but I must admit; it's very tricky. Just as she warned before starting; you have to be very careful while sliding the Hue/Saturation etc. If i'm a bit more comfortable with it, i can also give you a version that requires photoshop? If that helps you guys out of course .

Photobucket it is now officially on my shite list! I'll try to fix this soon. I thought I might have it on my website (which hasn't been updated in months), but apparently I never finished it there :(

Heya kitkat, it's great to see you! Thank you for updating the images. A lot of people have found this tutorial very helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to update for Photobucket's mess.

Does this work differently for floor tiles? I just keep getting a purple glow.

If you're getting a purple glow then that usually means there is an issue with the texture. Is it the correct dimensions?

yes, i tested, the tutorial worked perfectly on a chair, just not the floor tile. On the floor the specular looks purple, so the shine looks purple in game, instead of reading color levels as shine levels.

wkdstepchild game doesn't read the color from specular file. It treats this resource as it is coded to be treated. That purple color comes from something else.

It's definitely the specular. I tested the same diffuse and normal with EA's specular, and the shine is white. Is there something in the material definition, or something else, that might make it read correctly?

I know this is an old thread but still hoping I can get some assistance. Let me just say, thanks for such a great guide! I followed the steps and is getting the desired effect however, despite selecting the relevant parts of the mesh with the select tool, the gloss/shine is being applied to part of my mesh that I don't want it to be on. Could it be because I used PNG? Here's a preview. Hope it's clear enough to show what I'm explaining

Even if PNG has transparency, it does not save alpha layer. You have to export in .dds for spec or normal to work properly Check the nvidia plugin (or the intel plugin) if you're using photoshop, if not, i I think Gimp has the option or the software had also a standalone version.

Hi Syboulette TYSM for responding and providing an awesome tip. . it's much appreciated. Unfortunately I saw on another thread as well as other sites that Nvidia plug-in is not compatible with Photoshop CC? (That's the version I have) I'll just go a head and grab Gimp.
