To add a layer in Paint.net: 1. select the portion of lace you want to add as a new layer 2. Click Edit and choose Copy 3. Now go to the image you want to paste this into and select Edit. Choose Paste Into New Layer. If you prefer to use Photobie there is no reason you cannot as long as it is able to handle alphas. Congratulations on making your pumpkin tee

I followed your instructions... I exported my texture as a Paint.net file and it opened and showed the item pattern pieces. I than opened the file with the lace. I had to use the square select tool to outline the lace square before I could copy it. I then switched over to the screen with the pattern and went to Edit, then clicked Paste into New Layer. Instead of pasting the lace into the pattern it just made another copy of the lace swatch in a third window. I even tried highlighting and selecting the blouse pattern then tried to paste the lace into it, but it only opened a fourth window with another copy of the lace swatch. I don't know if Photobie can handle Alphas. Also in Photobie they have a tool called a Polygon Selection tool. You choose it, then when you want to cut something out of a picture to use in another you click at a starting point, then as you click as you outline the selection it makes a thin silver line. When you come back to the starting point you double click and it highlights the part that's been outlined and you can copy it to the clipboard and then paste it into your new picture. I use it a lot when Im making presentation shots for my Sims submissions on TSR. I don't seem to be able to find a tool that will do that in Paint.net. I was working with another Halloween cartoon and had to outline and copy the item. When I tried to paste it into a shirt in Paint.net the area behind the cartoon item what would be transparent left a see thru area on the shirt. So I don't know how to handle cutouts either. I really really apologize for being such a pain in the butt. :( I did check the Help files for Paint.net and couldn't find any answers. Maybe I should be learing Photoshop instead *shrug*. But thank you for your help, Im not giving up on this and will find my answers eventually.

I read a little bit about Photobie and it looks like it can handle transparency although it doesn't specifically save things as .dds. This means you should be able to use Photobie to make your images, save that in a format that retains your transparency (.png, .gif), open the saved file in Paint.net or GIMP, and save it in the .dds format the game requires. If you're already comfortable using Photobie this might be the best route for you and certainly that editor has enough special features to make it worth the extra save step just to be able to use them

Thank you Orangemittens (I love your name ) That is what Im going to do. I guess that Photobie is more of a photograph editor and so has more editing features and a lot of people use it for scrapbooking. I used to be an admin assistant for a business owner and used it for creating flyers and doing ad layouts. Its a really powerful tool for doing that. I am also going to watch the tutorials for the Sims 4 studio and learn more. Iv really wanted to move beyond just creating sims and now I feel I can do that. Thank you again.

It looks like it would be pretty serviceable for making things for Sims 4 as well. I'm glad you're enjoying S4S

Thanks so much for this!! I love it. Easy to understand, and a really awesome tutorial! I made a set of Hello Kitty shirts that are adorable and working perfect! Well, one swatch was all glitched out, but I think I accidentally changed the image size while editing it, so that would make sense. Redid that swatch, loading the game now for a test. Also made bright/vibrant purple rocker chick hair! I hate Maxis' dusty purple colour.
Also, one question ... How do you recolour objects? In Ts3 I remember using the TSR Workshop and then export the texture file, edit and import... But it seems like all that is available in S4S is CAS stuff. Or do I maybe have a version of it from the CAS demo...?

Object functionality is still unavailable as of yet. No other program out to the public does support for objects AFAIK. We're hoping to get support for it in a short time but we do not have a definite timeframe for when it will come in.

Awh okay, thanks. Hopefully soon, lol the whole reason I wanted recolours was to re-colour kids stuff for better matching bedrooms. But oh well, I'm happy with hair and clothing for now ^.^
I'll keep my eye out for when someone figures out object colouring :3

i've followed all these steps and my colors came out really well but when i try to use them they crash my game or don't show up at all, do you know why this may happen?

holloweddoll, I suspect it may have to do with the image. Did you save it as a .dds DXT5 (Interpolated Alpha) with the Generate Mip Maps box checked?

I have a problem. It says "Your package has been saved" but I don't actually get a .package file in my folders. Can someone help?

Hi pocasims, Sims 4 Studio makes and saves a .package before it will open the model viewer page. If you're able to see the model viewer page and export something from it there is a .package saved somewhere on your computer. Are you able to see the model viewer page and export from it?

Hello! Sorry to be jumping right in without proper introduction but I've been messing with/using this great program and it is fun and easy to use. Thank you all for creating this for us simmers. However...I'm having a slight problem when it comes to recoloring a shirt. For example, I've been trying to recolor a t-shirt by adding an logo to the shirt. When it comes to changing the shirt color nothing happens. The shirt remains the same color as the base color of the shirt I choose. Is there something I'm doing wrong? or something I'm missing?
